Is it ok to customise a dress?

Here at Willow Bridal Boutique we understand that each bride is different. 50.8 % of people on this planet are female and not one of them is the same… so why should their wedding dresses be.

Yes, there are thousands of wedding dresses all over the world from many different talented designers, but even then, some brides struggle to find what they are looking for which can cause a lot of unnecessary stress in the run up to the wedding. We have a lot of brides telling us they love a certain dress, but these something not quite right about it…

This is where it is important to let them know that customising dresses, to carry their own bespoke style is possible as long as their budget allows. Of course it will all depend on the dress that the bride has her eye on. It’s important for the bridal consultant to know if the intended alterations are possible. (When in doubt discuss with the seamstress)

Many companies such as Ivory & Co Bridal which we stock in store can provide extra fabrics, beading, appliqués etc at a cost, but in the case where they don’t supply these extras talking to an experienced seamstress is the best plan of action, they can usually fine extremely good matches for all gowns.

Many brides today are customising there gowns buy adding extra touches such as, sleeves, additional sparkle in many forms from delicate illusion sequins to fully sequinned tulle skirts, capes, colour sashes… the possibilities are endless. We love being able to create a bride to be's dream dress to create her own unique aisle style.

It is important to ask your bridal consultant to try these things out with you while at your appointment. For example if you fell in love with a gown BUT there wasn’t enough glitz, you and your consultant can get creative and place different fabric types in the correct places such as sequinned tulle under a sheer skirt, or if the bride really wants straps adding to a strapless gown this can also be shown as an example. In many cases these ‘tweaks’ make all the difference.

So if you think you have found your gown, but are still humming and haring over those little details we suggest that you get booked back in and ask your bridal consultant for inspiration to make that gown into the one.

Here at Willow Bridal we welcome brides that want to customise their gowns and will happy help to make your dreams come true.
